Google and the essence of an individual

This work was inspired by the question of what does Google know about the individual based on their searches and the information that it gathers. An issue that modern society is facing right now is the realization that perhaps we are inadvertently telling too much, giving away too much to social media and big tech corporations. It was after a discussion about this and the question of whether as a society we should be horrified by the information being gathered on the individual or to what degree if any it is nefarious or harmless that this work came to be.

De MOI is a commentary that while Google may gather information the question still remains to what degree information gleaned from searches can tap into the desires and motivations that underlie this information. This work in the style of the artist done with interference paint is not adequately captured in a photograph. The painting changes from each vantage point with the dress being a transparent white with a blue sheen and the painting surface covered with a tomato red/pink metallic paint that also disperses light differently from that vantage point of the viewer. The lipstick and the dress the two items that most likely would have come from a Google search are the items that have a little more opacity than the woman.

What does Google know of me?
